I really wanted to learn more about Harriet Tubman. Her story is truly one of faith, heartbreak, and perseverance. It was a wonderful tour and was very informative. I learned so much more about this magnificent woman. I also believe we had a "visitor" during the tour inside one of the property homes.
I truly enjoyed the visit to this historical site. The tour guide shared many interesting facts about Mother Harriet’s life and had us captivated as well as laughing at some of the stories. The life of Harriet Tubman was astounding and inspiring; but also a grave reminder of the history that plagues this nation. We were not able to enter one of the buildings as it is being repaired. A second building we were able to partially enter. The visitor center contained a timeline of her life and other information related to the abolitionist movement and the civil war. Even though we couldn’t enter all of the buildings, it was well worth the visit. And I can’t wait to return after some of the repairs take place.
If you are on a roadtrip through New England you definitely need to stop at Harriet Tubman House. The couple who tells the story about Harriet is super nice. Also be aware of the visiting time. First he will tell you about Harriets biography in an extraordinary way of storytelling! It was an experience we wont forget. After she will show you around the property and the house. Put it on your To-See-List!
Awesome experience. We were driving through Arburn, NY, headed to Canada. We had no idea we were going to pass through this town. What an awesome experience and well worth the stop. Great part of history and the knowledge you gain from just reading what they have available to read. Go, go now, you will not be disappointed.
There is so much to learn here! This historic location deserves so much more praise and support than it deserves! My classmates and I from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) visited this site as a part of a week-long research visit through Central New York. Our class was focused on the history of social activism in the 19th century, especially in the Abolition and Women’s Suffrage movements. Considering Harriet’s contributions to both of these social movements, let’s just say that it would be an understatement to say that our experience here was special. Harriet Tubman Davis does not get the credit she deserves! Today, we can help to rectify that injustice by visiting and supporting this well-preserved/restored location. To everyone who contributes to the operation of this site and the preservation of this powerful woman’s story, on behalf of UTSA, thank you so very much.
One of the highlights of my family’s trip to the area, unanimously agreed upon by all 5 of us! Paul has a warmth and enthusiasm about him that instantly gets you comfortable during the tour, and the love and knowledge he has on Harriet really brings her to life. I don’t think my attention has been completely captured like that for quite a long time. I learned so much about her and have a renowned awe and appreciation for this incredible woman. Definitely definitely visit, chat with Paul, and donate some funds to this important site! I hope to visit again when the additional projects being worked on are completed, God willing :)
Amazing site! The building itself is just an artifact of the past. However, the 2pm tour by the park rangers was wonderful! The history and context that they provided was enlightening and I learned a good deal about the "Female Moses" that I was unaware of before. This site and tour are a must have experience for anyone who is interested in American history. Highly recommend!
Excellent tour and presentation on Harriet Tubman. Christine did a wonderful job!
